A Gift from Mother Earth

Finding the right Geothermal Contractor is key to getting the best system for your money. We provide design, installations and services for new or retrofit applications in the residential sector. We hold certifications with IGSHPA and CGC and with our Hydronic experience we’ve got all your bases covered!

A Black Sheep with a Bright Future

Geothermal systems are simple in principle, must be precise in design and installed with knowledge and care. The concept is easy, the earth is always absorbing radiant energy from the sun and like a large battery, stores it. The temperature of the soil remains relatively the same year round, it does vary with depth and seasonal swing but let’s not complicate it. The soil (especially here) is not hot enough to heat your house with (@41*F or 5*C) so it must be “concentrated”. This is done with a heat pump, a simple refrigeration compression cycle. It works the same as your air conditioner, it takes heat (energy) from one source and moves it to a desired medium. In your air conditioning system that would be outside but in your heat pump it becomes your distribution system, either in-floor piping or forced air ducting. The compressor that pumps the refrigerant around creates heat as well and is cooled by the refrigerant, meaning that that heat is put into the house also. So think of it like this; for every unit of electricity used to pump the system around, that heat is being put into the house, so it works 100% efficient, better than any furnace on the market. The bonus? As you pump the fluid through the ground it is picking up energy from the earth, which is also heating your house making your properly designed system better than 100% efficient. The advantage to this system is that it can be reversed in the summer and it pumps heat into the ground and cools your house!

Simple enough, right? The difficult part is designing it properly to work properly. From the depth of the holes to the type of soil to the design of the piping in the ground it all has to be done right to work right all year, every year. It must installed properly and tested with care to ensure that once the dirt is put back down it works as it should. Simple in concept, but it must be done by trained and knowledgeable people.

Where we come in…

We have been a part of several successful Geothermal installations right here in Edmonton as well as around Alberta. We are involved right from the initial design right through to the drilling, building and commissioning. We have stringent control over every aspect of the job and that is where we believe we get our advantage, because we do it all there is no confusion between contractors or companies. We have completed our Design/Install Certifications from IGSHPA and CGC so it puts us in league all our own!
